I'm still a curious student but I like to listen in to gain more experience and recently I've been on potomac approach around the BWI area while studying, I'm picking up on some phraseology differences that I don't remember hearing much during training.
For example, I've heard things like "maintain present heading" instead of the more standard "fly heading [XXX]," and a few instances of "expect direct [fix]" getting issued earlier than I thought it would during sequencing, also I noticed this controller say "descend and maintain 3,000, vectors ILS 28," almost while still juggling a tight stream and it was kind of like weird cool cos it sounded pretty efficient but different from what's in the books.
Is this just real world variation that comes with experience and sector specific style or is there a potomac specific way of working BWI traffic that I should be tuning into?
Would love to hear from others
